Simon Gerrans, the only Australian to have won a stage in all three Grand Tours and the current Australian National Road Champion, further carved out his unique place in Australian cycling history as he delivered the first WorldTour victory to Australian’s first WorldTour team. It is the second overall win for Gerrans at the Santos Tour Down Under.

“This is a fantastic victory for GreenEDGE because this is the best way we can say thank you to the Ryan family, Shayne Bannan and all the people that have helped put this team together,” said Gerrans. “I’m really happy, and I can’t thank my GreenEDGE team enough for all the support this week.”

Gerrans took the ochre leader’s jersey on the queen stage of the six-day stage race. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) bested Gerrans in a two-up sprint atop Old Willunga Hill, and although the two riders were tied on time after the fifth day of racing, Gerrans earned the right to don ochre by virtue of count back.

“I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I was in the lead after Stage 5,” noted Gerrans. “I thought Alejandro had the lead after his stage win, and we’d have a tough job to get it off of him, but we had it so it all worked out in the end.”

The Big Island of Hawaii has a vibe, there is a rhythm, a cadence that increases as race draws closer. For Craig Alexander this was the exclamation point on a season that has had it ups and downs. After the recent tumultuous period with bike sponsors, Crowie set about doing two things: the first was regaining the title - mission accomplished; while the second was to prove that the move to the new sponsor, Specialized, was the right one. Again, mission accomplished.

At the line Crowie leapt for joy and then collapsed, overwhelmed by the feat of his third win and the toll it had taken on his body. He then spent a period in the medical tent after the struggle of the final 3 kilometres took their toll. A new course record also exemplified how strong his day had been. A emotional and at times teary interview with Mike Reilly revealed Crowie was in this for his family and his supporters.

For Crowie this was the complete victory. A masterpiece. To wax lyrical, Crowie simply crafted the most beautiful win of his stellar career. It answered all the questions and proved his greatness. This surely must elevate him into the best triathlete Australia has ever produced. His Vegas win, backed up with his win in Kona today was the fitting end to a sensational season. "It started with a dream. I just can't believe it," said an emotional Alexander. "I was happy to win it once but three times I can't tell you what
it feels like but three times is unreal, I can't tell you what it feels like. "This sport has given me so much. Today was the performance that I've been dreaming of."

The Return of Dan Atherton

In July of 2010 British mountain biker Dan Atherton sustained a terrifying injury. A crash at his own dirt jumps in North Wales resulted in a break of the C1 Disc in his neck. Just about the worst injury a rider could sustain and survive. Dan’s constant commitment and dedication that he puts into his riding was then needed to get him through the recovery. With months in a brace and none of his life’s usual manic activity, there were low moments along the way and plenty of time for contemplation. Dan’s determination to recover was only enhanced by his desire to return to the highest level of the sport that he has achieved so much success in before.
On the 20th January, Dan received the results of a final CT scan from Dr Robert Bray, the spinal specialist who has been overseeing his treatment. Red Bull’s Darren Roberts, the Atherton families personal trainer, accompanied Dan and had this to report, “The fractures have all healed and the tiny fragments of bone which are loose will be absorbed by the body over time, there was a slim possibility that an operation was required to remove these - but thankfully that op is not needed. More importantly Dr Bray said the words we've been waiting to hear since July 2010, 'you're good to go Dan, totally healed - get back on your bike and get riding hard. Try not to break it again'.”
It is with great happiness that we can announce Dan is now back on a bike and in full training, this moment was never a certainty as the injury to the C1 Disc was one of the most catastrophic ever seen. With strength and conditioning training to get him back to full race fitness his aim is to return to World Cup competition at the second round of the series in Fort William, Scotland. Concentrating on the discipline of downhill he’s hoping to take his new PRO-equipped Commencal Supreme bike back to the podium glory he enjoyed before this incident.

24 Jan 2011 ... HOOGERHEIDE, NETHERLANDS – After an exciting battle at the final World Cup race in Hoogerheide, Niels Albert (BKCP-Powerplus) succeeded not only in winning the race but at the same time he secured his overall lead in the World Cup standings as well. Gee Atherton wins the World Cup Series

After a nail biting season which has seen Commencal rider Gee Atherton and Santa Cruz Syndicates Greg Minnaar scrapping over tenths seconds all year, we finally crowned a World Cup Champion at the final round today at Windham Mountain, New York. Gee did not only win his third World Cup of the year, he claimed the overall title as well to polish of an amazing season.

"This title has been a long time coming, we've been in contention before but never this close. I am so stoked to have claimed something I have put so much time and effort into. The whole team have performed incredible this season, working tirelessly, and there is no way I could have even got close without them.”

The celebrations didn't just stop at the men's as Gee's sister Rachel took the win in the women’s event. Coming back from a shoulder injury that saw her miss two rounds of the series, Rachel made her return in style by taking the womens race by 1.36 seconds over fellow Brit Tracy Moesely. Rachel claimed sixth overall despite having missed two earlier rounds due to injury.

PRO presents the Missile Evo aerobar and stem

When Team HTC-Columbia and Scott approached us for the development of a completely new aerobar to fit their revolutionary Scott Plasma project we just couldn’t refuse... The challenge of creating the world’s fastest aerobar within the UCI-limits (3:1-rule), using the latest technologies in terms of aerodynamics, materials and construction simply fits the PRO-philosophy. Besides the team’s requirements we also utilized our contacts with professional triathletes and time trial and aerodynamics specialists to be able to integrate the latest developments and innovations. Finally we went the extra mile by developing a matching aerodynamic monocoque carbon stem to complete the kit!

Aerobar
The 40cm wide unidirectional (ud) carbon monocoque construction of the base-bar incorporates fully integrated cable-routing for the brake and shift cables (compatible with SHIMANO Dura-Ace Di2 cables). The ud carbon extensions and arm rests are mounted to widely adjustable alloy “chimneys”. The total weight of this aerobar is 595 grams (incl. extensions, arm-pads etc.).

Stem
PRO also introduces a carbon monocoque constructed stem that ensures a seamless connection to the aerobar. Highlight of this stem is an integrated brake and shift cable routing (compatible with SHIMANO Dura-Ace Di2). Furthermore, it features an integrated carbon front and top cap. The separate stem ensures a wide adjustability which is vital for a perfect aerodynamic and/or comfortable position. This stem comes in three lengths (85, 95 & 105 mm) and comes with a 17 degree angle. Weight from 280 grams.

The PRO Missile Evo Kit is the new benchmark in terms of integration, aerodynamics and adjustability. Transform your position and your bike in a way that was never possible before and save precious seconds. When every second counts, go PRO.

Both the stem and aerobar are expected the end of August.

PRO launches Mark Cavendish Star Series

PRO introduces the Vibe Sprint “Mark Cavendish Star Series” handlebar and stem: a no-compromise cockpit for the most demanding and victorious sprinter in the peloton. Cavendish (Team HTC-Columbia) is very particular about the technical details of his bike and the bar and stem are a major focus in this. Besides the functionality, Mark was also very keen on the final design of “his” cockpit. After all, the products are bearing his name…

Stem

The stem-body is of a unidirectional carbon in monocoque design for an ultimate rigidity and responsiveness. Together with the integrated CNC alloy top- and frontcap this stem definitely has the X-factor! The rigidity of this stem is almost double compared to a regular PRO Vibe 7S stem. The stem will be available in 105, 120 and 135mm lengths. Weight will be from 170 grams.

Handlebar

The bar will be produced of a reinforced alloy, with an internally splined construction, instead of carbon which can be unpredictable after a crash. By adding four splines in the already oversized top-section of the bar, the rigidity is increased with 9% compared to a regular PRO Vibe 7S handlebar. You can imagine that even 1% can be decisive in a shoulder-to-shoulder sprint at 70kmph. This handlebar will exclusively be available in an anatomic bend, in three widths: 40, 42 and 44 cm.
Weight will be from 295 grams.

Both the stems and handlebars will be separately available at your local PRO dealer
from the first week of June 2010.

Dominique Cornu optimizes his position on the new Skil-Shimano team bikes

End of March Dominique Cornu will compete at the Tracks Worlds. Today Cornu spent his day testing and fine-tuning his new Track- and Road Time-trail bikes at the Omnisport Track in Apeldoorn in The Netherlands. During a series of tests Dominique was able to optimize his position in terms of aerodynamics and effectiveness by using an advanced computer-program in combination with expert knowledge of the team and its material-sponsors Shimano, PRO and Koga. Cornu said: “Testing my materials on aerodynamics is extremely important because on this level every second counts. It’s amazing to see what a difference the right equipment already makes, and together with my new position I’m looking forward with confidence towards my road time trials and the coming Track Worlds.”
Cornu tested the new 2010 Skil-Shimano team clothing. Extensive research enabled Shimano to find the best match of fabrics to make the time-trial suit extremely wind-cheating. Shimano uses a very smooth material on the front and on the back a special surface texture which reduces drag. Next to that the stitching at the shoulders and arms is the same as the strips used by speed skaters. Recent tests already revealed that the 2010 Skil-Shimano team time-trial suit is among the fastest available.
Besides the Shimano equipment the Koga bikes are fully equipped with PRO components. Aero bars and wheels are probably the most influential factors when it comes to aerodynamics of a track- or time-trial bike. Together with its sponsored teams PRO has gathered a lot of experience in this field over the last years and this shows in the test-results. With the wide program of bicycle accessories PRO is able to provide the required components to enable every rider to find his optimal aerodynamic and effective position.
Both the Skil-Shimano team and its sponsors invest a lot of time and effort into the newest innovations. In fact, innovation is known to be one of the core values of the Skil-Shimano team and of its high-end technical partners. Despite state-of-the-art computer-simulations in the various R&D-departments it’s the real-time testing and custom fitting of the athlete on the bike that makes the difference. After all, the real seconds are won on the road, on the track or in the field, not in the wind tunnel or on the sketch board. Both Shimano and PRO are testing their components intensively with the best riders in the world before making it available for the consumer.
