What is your riding style?

Your riding style will determine the length of dropper seatpost travel and the robustness of the seatpost you require. Gravel and XC riders require relatively short travel dropper seatposts, which are designed to be as light as possible. Trail and Enduro riders meanwhile require longer travel dropper seatposts, but due to the gnarly nature of their riding the seatposts need to be exceptionally robust. Weight is thus less of a factor, particularly for Enduro riders.

Does your frame support internal cable routing for a dropper post?

Most modern mountain and even gravel bike frames support internal cable routing for dropper seatposts. Older and some new, particularly gravel or XC bike, frames do not however. If this is the case you will need to select a dropper seatpost designed for external cable routing. If you are unsure if your bike is designed to accommodate an internally routed dropper seatpost or not check the frame manufacturer’s website.

What is the inner diameter of your bicycle’s Seat Tube?

The internal diameter of your seat tube will determine which diameter dropper seatpost will fit in your bike’s frame. If you are uncertain of the internal diameter check the frame manufacturer’s website or measure it manually.

What’s your existing saddle height?

Measure the length of your existing seatpost, in millimetres, from the seatpost collar to the saddle clamp. This is to determine the ideal length, when your dopper seatpost is fully extended, of your new PRO dropper seatpost.

What is the maximum depth your seatpost can be inserted to?

Measure the depth, in millimetres, to which your seatpost can be inserted to. This depth is typically limited by suspension pivots, a bottle cage boss or a bend in the seat tube of your bicycle. You can measure the maximum depth by measuring from the seatpost collar to the first obstruction in the seat tube or by sliding your existing, rigid seatpost as deep as it will go into your frame. Mark the point to which is inserts on the seatpost and then measure the length from the bottom of the seatpost to the mark you made.
